THE EYE AREA!
Ageing is an essential inevitability - It happens to all of us and we should actually be happy about growing old as long as we are healthy. as we are aging. However, there are things that start bothering us with time.
One of the biggest heartaches is our eyes and the area around our eyes.
They say that eyes are the window to our souls and the truth is when we look at another human being we look at their lips and their eyes.
That is what we pick up on the first glance.
Life is all about expressing yourself. Smiling, crying, laughing, screaming -all those expressive emotions manifest themselves as permanent lines on our face.
Why do we get those lines?
As we age, our skin starts becoming thinner. Skin thickness declines by 6 to 16% protected from the age of 30. This is due to loss of supporting matrix which is made up of hyaluronic acid and lots of collagen and elastin. Sun, environmental pollution, smoking, bad lifestyle etc. all contribute to accelerated aging.
In addition, our skeleton is deflating so our skin loses its support- and not to mention the movement and shrinkage of the fat pads that pad our faces!
So what is the first thing we need to do to prevent this decline; sleep well, eat well, exercise, drink lots of water and do not smoke!!!!
I cannot emphasize on the last one enough. Nicotine leads to construction of the tiny blood vessels that supply the skin and age skin faster than anything else can!
A diet rich in healthy fats, vitamins, and nutrients will have an enormous impact on the way your skin looks. Some of the best foods we can eat to prevent aging skin and eye wrinkles include fatty fish, avocados, nuts and seeds, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and dark chocolate and red wine.
It’s important to eat a variety of these foods to ensure you’re getting all the good stuff your body needs to function. Eat all colors of the rainbow and look to include an array of foods containing omega-3 fatty acids, high-quality protein, vitamins A, C, E, D, K, B3, B5, choline, and folic acid.
In addition, , I personally love adding Skinade to my diet.
This is a supplement which provides everything that your skin needs in a healthy delicious drink . Apart from the multivitamins and the Omega assets, it provides your collagen!
In the nutricosmetics industry, collagen peptides from marine sources are growing in popularity due to their high quality and efficacy. However, in order to be beneficial to the skin, collagen peptides must be bio-available, they need to be easily and quickly absorbed by the body.
Skinade contains pure Hydrolyzed Marine Collagen Peptides sourced from the skin of fresh-water fish, which are low in sodium and eliminate the potential for mercury contamination. Our peptides are extracted using a gentle enzymatic hydrolysis process to achieve the lowest possible molecular weight (2 kDal). The lower the molecular weight, the easier it is for the body to absorb the collagen.
And of course, while we are discussing that we cannot underestimate the importance of staying hydrated. Most experts recommend taking up to 2 L of water a day to flush out all the toxins and keep your body in a state of optimum balance.
SUN EXPOSURE- why is to so bad!
We all know that the sun can cause cancer. What people do not know is that sun rays especially UV A breakdown your collagen-and hasten ageing. UVA is all around us even on a dark great day. It is around you while you are sitting at your desk in your office.
Therefore, we cannot underestimate the importance of wearing sun protection lotions every single day of our life. Most people I see and scan, do not apply sun protection around their eyes. It is just something they do not.
They have never realized that they need to. And yet this is the area that bothers most people a lot.
If you’re trying to avoid eye wrinkles, it’s important to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protections against UVB and UVA rays, and it’s also a good idea to wear sunglasses to prevent that squinty face we all do in the bright sunshine.
Often I only recommend products to patients upon their first consultation and they feel quite disheartened about it.
We cannot underestimate the importance of right skin care.
My personal favorites for the eye area are: Elastiderm from Obahi Medical , Reticap EL from Skinmed, Calecim multi action cream, Vitamin C 10 Percent from Obagi Mecial, and Aurderm Crenor XO.
ELASTIderm® products are made with a patented Bi-Mineral Contour Complex™ help support skin elasticity so it can bounce back from the signs of aging, resulting in firmer-looking, more resilient skin.
Tebiskin® Reticap-EL SPF 15 is a product specifically developed for the delicate and sensitive area of the contour of eyes and lips. Its effective hydrating, firming and anti-wrinkle action is deep and long-lasting. A protection filter counteracts the skin damage caused by UVA and UVB radiations. Thanks to the Skin Flash Up Technology, the aesthetic benefit is already visible only a few minutes after application. The product is easy to spread and is rapidly absorbed. After application, the skin appears immediately smooth and silky and the visibility of horizontal wrinkles of the eye area and the vertical ones of the lip area is clearly decreased. It is useful for counteracting the “fall” of the upper eyelid.
Cernor XO Cream
Specially developed by Auriga International to combat dark circles under the eyes, Cernor® XO cream based on vitamin K oxide strengthens and protects the walls of the blood vessels, making them more impermeable. This cream acts on dark circles of vascular origin betraying a bluish colour. Cernor® XO cream quickly removes your dark circles and gives radiance to your face.
The only product in the market with animal origin stem cells! Multi-Action Cream actively targets signs of aging such as skin laxity and sagging, loss of facial contours, as well as diminished skin fullness and volume resulting in thin skin. It works to smoothen out deep wrinkles and deep facial creases such as the nasolabial folds. Discoloration is visibly improved.
We can fill out the hollows under the eyes with fillers. The procedure takes half an hour and results are instant.
We can stop you from scrunching up your skin when you smile with tiny injections of botulinum toxin .
We can take in the skin around your eyes by deploying make up products called skin boosters. My favorites around the eyes are profhilo, viscoderm hydro booster and Redensity1!
Non invasively we can offer Dermalux MD phototherapy - LED light therapy provides compromised cells with a boost of energy to enhance cell performance, boosting circulation and increasing collagen and elastin production in connective tissue.
AND LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST- WE COME TO MY FAVORITE PROCEDURES!
Ablative and semi ablative treatments with Tixel! Tixel is a totally new way of treating the skin using thermo-mechanical ablative (TMA) technology.
Unlike other therapies which are currently available, Tixel is not laser, ultrasound or radiofrequency. Tixel treatment is truly tailored to your needs based on your skin concerns and how much down time you are able to have
Absolutely love this treatment because it is one of the only few treatments that are designed to treat the area around the eye with minimal complications. We deploy pure heat to create controlled damage to the skin, which heals by collegen information and skin tightening.
The results are amazing but you need to be committed to 3 to 6 sessions, and give yourself 5-6 months to see the final outcome. This procedure can be performed even if you have had fillers in the area we intend to treat.
For some of our other patients whose main concern is eyebags or a sagging eyebrow I sometimes use Ultraformer 3 therapy. We use Micro Focused ultrasound waves to target those eyebags and build fibers to lift the eyebrows.
Since 2019, Morpheus8 has been all the rage internationally.
It is an amazing treatment and can be taken to the sensitive area around the eyes. There are limitations however are in people with colored skin as we need to prepare them with anti-pigmented products for at least six weeks before we can treat them and we cannot treat the area if it has filler deposits underneath.
I pick and choose on the treatment I need to deploy for your eye area depending on your requirements, budget, downtime constraints and of course medical necessity.
It is super important that patients go to a clinic that can provide an entire spectrum of treatments instead of just selling them what they have which may or may not work and that is why you come to us.
